The story of RRRebuilds.co.uk
A cautionary tale
The story:
Here is a summary of what RRRebuilds.co.uk promises: RR Rebuilds specializes in the reconditioning and rebuilding of Land Rover and Range Rover engines, offering a comprehensive service to restore your vehicle's performance. Their fully equipped workshop features specialized machinery and equipment necessary to rebuild 4x4 engines to exceptional standards. The dedicated team is committed to providing excellent customer service, guiding clients through each step of the process.
The reconditioning process at RR Rebuilds involves several key stages:
1. Dismantling: Engines are stripped down to their components, which are then thoroughly cleaned using specialized equipment.
2. Machining: Engine blocks are professionally honed, cylinder heads pressure tested and skimmed, and valves resurfaced to ensure optimal performance.
3. Assembly: During reassembly, brand-new components such as oil pumps, piston rings, bearings, crankshafts, and gaskets are used. The cylinder heads receive new valve stem seals, camshafts, and lifters. A new timing chain or belt is also installed.
4. Quality Control: Strict quality control measures are enforced throughout the assembly process, with all measurements double-checked to ensure reliability.
RR Rebuilds offers a 12-month unlimited mileage warranty on their work, providing clients with peace of mind. All parts used are Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) quality, contributing to the comprehensive warranty offered. Additionally, courtesy vehicles are available subject to terms and conditions.
Customer testimonials reflect satisfaction with RR Rebuilds' services. For instance, a client named Mr. Sheppard expressed gratitude for the replacement engine installed in his Land Rover Discovery 4, noting that the vehicle was running like new after the service.
In summary, RR Rebuilds promises to deliver high-quality engine reconditioning and rebuilding services for Land Rover and Range Rover vehicles, emphasizing meticulous workmanship, customer support, and reliable warranties.
Now we have a different story. After paying £10,179.67, the following issues arose due to the substandard workmanship:
· Upon pickup the car was leaking oil and the car was returned and said to be fixed.
· Upon driving the car to Sweden it again started to leak oil.
· We left the car with a LR dealer in south of Sweden who hoped given that the engine was replaced that this was rectified by changing the dried out oil plug gasket.
· After again finding large oil leaks we hired an independent Land Rover specialist in Stockholm.
· After lifting the body off several defects were found. These defects are of a quite serious kind for a company that specializes in rebuilds.
· After this driving the car we again found leaks.
· Again the car was taken to the Stockholm workshop where to get to the leak a large portion of the front assembly had to be taken apart.
In total this cost another £ 12,000.
Now what exactly was wrong?
Initially and probably the one thing that best shows RRRebuilds quality of work is:
The bottom left valve cover bolt was broken in the block see photo in the photos section and put in half a turn with an attempt to tighten it with silicone. On top of that the coolant hose in the photo which should be fastened with two bolts was not fastened at all. Of course the car should never have been let out of the shop with this flaw but after the first oil leak and coming back to RRRebuilds this is obviously how they fixed it.
The rightside EGR had broke threads and had to be rethreaded.
The Oilpan which is not part of RRRebuilds work but of course they had it off had been glued with metallic glue and the pass through gasket for the oilsensor was totally dried out.
The airbox had a broken off plug and was leaking.
The main cable plug which of course had to be fastened by RRRebuilds was broken and had to be refastened with a ZIP Tie.
And RRRebuilds response to all this was not “I can´t believe it - let us fix it” No it was just bring the car back. Which with that quality of Workmanship of course was not an option.
